Bunkz ("we," "us," or "our") operates a mobile application that helps college students find compatible roommates. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any university or college.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide:

• Account Information: Name, email address, password, date of birth
• Profile Information: Photos, bio, major, graduation year, housing preferences
• University Information: College/university name, .edu email address for verification
• Lifestyle Preferences: Sleep schedule, cleanliness habits, study preferences, hobbies, interests
• Messages: Content of messages you send to matches and group members
• Premium Subscription: Payment information processed through Apple App Store (we don't store credit card details)

Information We Collect Automatically:

• Usage Data: How you interact with the app (swipes, matches, messages sent)
• Device Information: Device type, operating system, app version
• Log Data: IP address, browser type, crash reports

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide the Service: Show your profile to other students at your college to help you find roommates
• Match You: Use your preferences to suggest compatible roommate matches
• Verify Identity: Confirm you're a student through .edu email verification
• Enable Communication: Allow messaging between matches and group members
• Process Payments: Handle premium subscriptions through Apple's payment system
• Improve the App: Analyze usage patterns to fix bugs and add features
• Safety & Moderation: Detect and prevent fraud, harassment, and violations of our terms
• Send Notifications: Alert you about matches, messages, and app updates (you can opt-out)

4. Who Sees Your Information

Other Students at Your College:

Your profile (photos, bio, preferences) is visible to other verified students at your selected college. This is how the app works — we show you potential roommates and they see you.

We DO NOT:

• ❌ Share your data with your university
• ❌ Sell your information to advertisers or third parties
• ❌ Show your profile to people at other colleges
• ❌ Post your information publicly on the internet

Service Providers:

We share limited data with trusted third-party services that help us operate:

• Supabase: Database hosting (stores your profile and messages)
• RevenueCat: Subscription management (processes premium payments)
• Apple: Push notifications and payment processing

Legal Requirements:

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect safety (e.g., credible threats, illegal activity).

5. Data Retention

• Active Account: We keep your data as long as your account is active
• Deleted Account: When you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, photos, messages, and personal data within 30 days
• Legal Obligations: We may retain anonymized data for fraud prevention and legal compliance

6. Your Rights & Choices

You Can:

• Access Your Data: View all information we have about you in your profile settings
• Edit Your Profile: Update or change any information anytime
• Delete Your Account: Permanently remove all your data (Settings → Delete Account)
• Control Visibility: Hide your profile from the swipe deck (Incognito Mode - premium feature)
• Manage Notifications: Turn off push notifications in app settings
• Download Your Data: Request a copy of your information (contact us)
• Opt Out of Communications: Unsubscribe from marketing emails (we rarely send these)

Your Privacy Rights by Location:

California Residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, and opt-out of data sales (we don't sell data).

European Users (GDPR): You have rights to access, rectification, erasure, data portability, and to object to processing.

All Users: Contact us at privacy@bunkzapp.com to exercise any of these rights.

7. Data Security

We take security seriously:

• ✓ Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/SSL)
• ✓ Secure cloud storage with access controls
• ✓ Password hashing (we never store plain-text passwords)
• ✓ Regular security audits and updates

However, no system is 100% secure. Use a strong password and don't share your account credentials.

8. Children's Privacy

Bunkz is only for users 18 years and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover a user is under 18, we will delete their account immediately.

9. Email Verification

We verify .edu email addresses to confirm college enrollment. Your university does not provide us with your information, and we do not share your Bunkz activity with your university. The verification badge simply confirms your email domain matches your selected college.

10. Groups & Shared Data

When you join a roommate group:

• Group members can see your full profile
• Messages you send in group chat are visible to all members
• If you leave a group, your messages remain (for context), but your profile is removed

11. Premium Subscriptions

Premium subscriptions are processed through Apple App Store. Apple handles payment processing and we don't store your credit card information. Subscription data (plan type, renewal date) is managed by RevenueCat and synced to your Bunkz account.

12. Third-Party Links

Our app may contain links to external websites or social media. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party sites. Please review their privacy policies separately.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes via:

• In-app notification
• Email to your registered address
• Updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy

Continued use of Bunkz after changes means you accept the updated policy.

14. International Users

Bunkz is based in the United States. If you use our service from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to and stored in the U.S., which may have different data protection laws than your country.

15. Do Not Track

We do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals. You can control tracking through your device settings and app permissions.
